Download & Setup

Everything you need to go from zero to the login screen. Four steps, about fifteen minutes of your time, and one big download.

Download the HD client

We recommend the WotLK 3.3.5a HD client: the classic game with high definition character models and sharper textures, all languages included, fully patched and ready to play. The download is about 40 GB, delivered by torrent, so grab a torrent client first if you need one (qBittorrent is free and works great).

Open the .torrent file in your torrent client and let it finish. Leaving it seeding afterwards helps the next player download faster. Prefer direct sources? The official HD client Discord has the latest downloads and support straight from its makers.

Put the game folder anywhere you like

There is no installer. When the torrent finishes you will have a folder called world of warcraft 3.3.5a hd. Move it anywhere you want the game to live (for example C:\Games), and you are done with this step.

Point the game at OnlyFunsWoW (two edits)

The HD client needs both of these edits. If you do only one, the game will not connect.

3a. The realmlist file

Inside the game folder, open Data/enUS/realmlist.wtf (or your language’s folder) in any text editor and replace its contents with:

set realmlist logon.onlyfunswow.com

3b. The login screen file

Then, still inside the game folder, open the Interface folder and open the file named loginui in any text editor (Notepad is fine). Find the ServerList section and set the Host line to:

["Host"] = "logon.onlyfunswow.com"

Save both files and close them.

Create an account and play

Create your account if you have not already, then launch Wow.exe from the game folder and log in with your account name and password. Welcome to OnlyFunsWoW!

Already have the original 3.3.5a client?

Any standard WotLK 3.3.5a client works too, and it needs only one edit: there is no login screen file to change, because that file only exists in the HD client. Open Data/enUS/realmlist.wtf (or your language’s folder) in a text editor and replace its contents with:

set realmlist logon.onlyfunswow.com

Save, launch the game, and log in.

Optional patch: Undead Paladin & Dwarf Shaman

Only players who want to play the Forbidden Paths combinations need this small patch (6 KB); everyone else can skip this section. It lets you create an Undead Paladin or Dwarf Shaman directly at the character creation screen, and it fixes the parts of the interface the standard client cannot display for these two combinations: profession windows, spellbook class tabs and the chat language menu. Without it you can still obtain the combinations at the Leveling Manager, but profession windows will not open on that character until you install the patch.

Download the file that matches your client language: patch-enUS-Y.MPQ for English clients, patch-zhCN-Y.MPQ for Chinese clients.
Close the game completely.
Copy the file into your game folder under Data/enUS (English) or Data/zhCN (Chinese). That is the same folder where you edited realmlist.wtf during setup. If your folder uses another language (for example enGB), rename the file to match, e.g. patch-enGB-Y.MPQ.
Start the game. Paladin now appears when creating an Undead, and Shaman when creating a Dwarf.

Install it on every computer you play from. To remove it later, just delete the file; your characters are stored on the server and are never affected.
